The ancient history of Ukraine and its people

Once the historical classic Sergey Solovyev wrote: «the general history, in its true value, is not the collection of private stories of all people and states without general connection, general plan, and overall aim … but its subject is great: it should embrace suddenly and in a full picture all mankind, how it developed, variously improved and, at last, reached a present epoch from the initial, poor infancy».

The Slavic state origin

Approximately (as there is no exact date) by the boundary of age, the Slavic expansion had begun with territory of Prikarpatye, upper courses of Dnestr, and also with the right bank of average Podneprovye, on the West, South and East. On the West, Slavs migrated to upper courses of Visla, and then Elba, bending around external Western Carpathians.

Galitsk-Volynsk princedom – the last stronghold of Kiev Russia

Galitsko-Volynsk princedom, on the boundary of twelfth century was Russian feudal princedom, which appeared as a result of Galitsky and Vladimiro-Volynsk princedoms. It was located on fertile black soil in upper courses of rivers Dnestr, Visla, Narev and Prinyat, with long existing developed agriculture. One of conditions of princedom creation in the southwest of Kiev Russia was that princes' «crown lands» of the centre and northeast led to further easing of all Kyiv state and impossibility of creation of uniform powerful association.

Epoch of Ruins, as the trial for Ukraine and its people. Getmanschina of Ivan Mazepa: from glory to disgrace or...

Having summed up Getmanschina period, Pereyaslav Rada and Ukrainian state creation by Khmelnitskiy, I would like to underline once again, that this event wasn't the evidance of despair or hopelessness (which is disputed among my colleagues), but was an embodiment of the state idea created by original «mighty small group», i.e. the group of educated foremen making the higher echelon of Getmanschina officials.

Mazepa's treachery of as people, so allegiancy (about what it is never necessary to forget), coincided with such epoch-making event as Poltava fight. On July, 8th, 2009 Russia and Ukraine, but, certainly, in a different way celebrated the really historical date - 300 anniversary from the date of the nice «victory». But, that date became the event not only for the specified countries.

Catherine the Great and Potemkin in the history of Ukraine-Russia. Creation of Novorossia and Ruthenia strengthening.

Probably, the period of Empress Catherine II reign, alias Catherine the Great was the most fruitful for Ruthenia. Oh, how many passions were in the days of her reign and how many passions cause only the mention of her among the modern men of the Ukrainian policy. Some «our scientifically-historical representatives» agreed even that Catherine should be ranked as the basic enemy of the Ukrainian people. It's rather interesting, the attentive reader will say, for what, actually? Let's clear it up.

Ukraine at the critical stage of social development during the post-war period

In the World War II (1939 - 1945) especially, during the Great Patriotic War, Ukraine suffered the greatest losses: more than four millions victims and missing, and also two millions people, who were taken out to Germany for forced hard labour. And if today the date of October, 28th as 1944 is considered as the official date of the Soviet Ukraine liberation it was still too far to the date of outright liberation of Ukraine and Ukrainian people.
